Church Christmas Party Ideas: A Rental Plan for Kids, Families and Fellowship Night

A church Christmas party has to work for three groups at the same time. The kids want something to do with their hands. Parents want a photo before the little ones melt down. The adults who come every week mostly want time to sit, laugh and catch up. When one plan covers all three, the night feels like a family gathering instead of a long wait for dessert.

This guide walks through the formats that fit most churches, the rentals that suit each age group, and how to fit it all into a fellowship hall or parking lot. Everything named here is something you can rent from us, and you can mix and match to suit your space and your congregation.

The short version

  • Pick the format first: a fellowship-hall party, an after-service family night or a community outreach event. The format decides almost everything else.
  • Kids: make-and-take crafts like ornament making, Create-a-Snow Globe and cookie decorating, plus a Santa photo setup.
  • Adults: a hosted game show, video bingo, karaoke for carols or live music.
  • Outreach: a synthetic ice rink or a walk-in snow globe gives neighbors a reason to stop by.
  • Seating: tables and chairs are arranged with your order.

Start with the format, not the rental list

Most church Christmas parties fall into one of three shapes. Decide which one you’re planning before you look at activities. A craft table that’s perfect for a members’ party can be the wrong call for an outreach night where hundreds of strangers might walk up.

The fellowship-hall Christmas party

This is the classic: members and their families, a potluck or catered meal, and a couple of hours in the hall. Space is usually the limit, so tabletop activities and one bigger shared moment work best. Think crafts along one wall, a game show or bingo after dinner, and a photo spot near the entrance.

The after-service family night

Families come straight from a Sunday or Wednesday service, often with kids who have already sat still for an hour. Keep it short and active. Crafts and photos go up first, food comes out quickly, and everyone’s heading home before bedtime.

The community outreach event

This one is for people who don’t attend yet. It’s often outdoors or in the parking lot, it’s free to walk in, and it needs something visible from the street. A skating rink, a walk-in snow globe and warm snacks do that job. Indoor crafts give families a reason to come through your doors.

The kids’ corner: make-and-take crafts and Santa photos

Kids remember the thing they made. A craft table also keeps them in one place while parents talk, which matters more than any of us want to admit. These holiday stations work well at church parties:

Put the craft tables against a wall, away from the main walkway and the food line. Have a volunteer write names on the bottom of each project as it’s finished, and set aside a drying spot so finished crafts aren’t sitting under someone’s coffee cup. For more on choosing between keepsakes, our holiday make-and-take stations guide compares the options.

For photos, our Photos with Santa listing is a Santa photo setup for your party. Ask us exactly what it includes for your date before you announce it in the bulletin, so families know what to expect.

Adult fellowship: game show, bingo and music

Adults at a church party don’t need to be entertained every minute. They need one or two easy ways to join in that don’t involve standing in the middle of the room. These are the ones that tend to get the quiet folks laughing:

If you go with the game show, our post on holiday game-show teams covers how to split teams so nobody gets stuck in the spotlight. Browse the game show rentals for the full lineup.

Outreach in the parking lot: rink, snow globe and warm treats

If the goal is to welcome the neighborhood, put your biggest attraction where people driving by can see it. Our two most visible winter rentals are a portable synthetic ice rink and the walk-in Giant Inflatable Snow Globe.

A rink in the lot gives families something to do outside, while crafts and Santa photos pull them into the building. Our guide to how a synthetic ice rink rental works explains the setup and space you’ll need. You can also see the ice skating rink and the giant snow globe listings.

Add something warm and quick to hand out. A popcorn machine, cotton candy and hot dogs keep lines moving and feel like a church carnival in December. If you’ve planned a summer festival before, our church festival rentals page lists the same food stands. The winter festival layout guide shows how to place a rink, photos, crafts and concessions so lines don’t cross.

Fitting it into the fellowship hall

Every hall is different, and the details that matter are easy to miss on a busy Sunday. Before you request a quote, walk the space with a tape measure and your phone.

Plan your volunteer jobs

Churches run on volunteers, and a holiday party is no exception. A few clear jobs keep the night calm:

When you request a quote, ask us which parts of your order come with Party Pros staff and which your volunteers will need to cover. That way nobody finds out on the night.
